About Massage

What is therapeutic massage and what are the benefits?
What does a massage treatment involve?
Precautions and contraindications for reiki
Massage involves me using my hands, elbows and forearms to perform a variety of techniques, such as stroking, kneading and trigger point release, to manipulate the muscles and soft tissues. As a qualified physiotherapist I am able to deliver therapeutic massage which is a personalised massage tailored to your specific needs. Before your first appointment you will be asked to complete a form that helps to give me some of the information I require in order to provide a treatment customised to you. This includes your reason for seeking massage, for example, relaxation, specific problem or target area. Your preferred pressure; light, medium or firm. We will discuss this further at the start of your appointment. During the treatment you can at any point let me know if you would like the pressure changed or the focus moved to a different area.
There are many benefits to massage, including:
Relieving muscle tension
Reducing pain
Promoting overall wellness
Improving circulation
Improving flexibility
Reducing stress
Enhancing relaxation
Improving muscle function
Reducing muscle soreness
Improving athletic performance
Improving recovery time
Improving sleep
Reducing anxiety and depression
If its is your first treatment with me you will be asked to fill in a consultation form and send it back to me prior to your treatment. When you arrive we will begin with a discussion so I can ascertain the information I need to tailor the massage to your needs. I will then leave and give you time to undress to the appropriate level and cover yourself with a towel. Then the massage commences. This may involve changes of position, depending on what areas of the body are being massaged. At the end of the treatment you will be given a glass of water to drink. After you leave I will document the key points of session. All documentation and information will be kept in line with GDPR principals. I recommended you drink plenty of water and get adequate rest for the remainder of the day.
